司徒志明早歲隨現代水墨畫大師呂壽琨先生習水墨畫，後入讀公信藝術專科學校，隨錢展沖老師習素描及油畫，亦曾隨曾景文先生習水彩畫，隨陳學書、陳麗娜夫婦習傳統意大利油畫，隨黃碧如習粉彩畫。

司徒氏最喜於遊歷中創作，由外在物象中不斷發現新造型，及至發掘其中趣味。其作品匯貫中西，融合傳統與現代，別樹一幟。自1978年至今，先後受邀於澳門、香港、新加坡、日本及歐美等多個國家展出五十餘場，更積極從事香港本地藝術教學及推廣。

觀賞司徒志明的畫，是極致的享受。

Yan Gallery is delighted to announce its next exhibition, entitled ‘Catch The Feeling’, which consists of a collection of around 30 paintings, some in oil, but mostly done in watercolour and Chinese ink and colour on paper, by Hong Kong artist Marco Szeto.

Marco Szeto is a free spirit with a lust for travel and, ‘catching the moment’ is what his work is all about. Whether travelling within Asia such as Macau or Singapore, or further afield to Spain, Portugal or Cuba, Marco manages to put his finger on the pulse of a place and capture the feeling – the very essence of a location. Among this collection are charming cityscapes as well as scenes of rural idyll, that instantly sum up the country where they were painted. The mood of the painting entitled ‘Travessa do Roquete’ is instantly Macanese, whereas the cobblestoned road and red tiles in the painting entitled, ‘Alla Restaurante Marin, Villafuerte’ has a lively Cuban feel to it.

Working mainly in a blend of watercolour and Chinese ink and colour on paper, these scenes have a light, delicate touch to them, the brush strokes are free but precise, fluid and yet succinct. His tones are colourful enough to catch your attention, but also bear the Chinese qualities of subtlety and elegance. His works are charming but also refined with elements of folk art blended with design elements reminiscent of Matisse.

Marco’s scenes of Hong Kong are equally engaging – whether the paved stone steps of Pottinger Street or the street sign laden view of Lan Kwai Fong, his scenes instantly draw you into his whimsical world, where it is impossible not to be uplifted and charmed by his buoyant, upbeat style.

Marco Szeto was born in Hong Kong in 1955 and has been painting since the age of two years old. He received early training in ink painting from the late Lui Shou-kun. He also studied drawing and oil painting at the Kun Shun Fine Art Institute in Hong Kong in the late 1960s. He furthered his studies in art with courses in watercolour painting and pastel painting and then left Hong Kong in 1973 to study art in Italy with emphasis on traditional painting technique, drawing and the history of art. In 1977 he went on to Madrid, where he concentrated on the art of Velazquez. With such a rich artistic background, Marco has the freedom to cross boundaries in styles and traditions, blending Eastern and Western techniques, feeling free to use whatever media is available to him to create his own unique style of art.
